Not Quite a Koan (by Kevin Eberhardt)

Not Quite a Koan
Writing a poem’s like doing
Origami bending the paper
To your will not with fingers
But w/ink fashioning a some
Thing out of a minute ago
Nothing a brief bit of time
Out of a life unaware of how
Little is left / leaving behind
More than a pool of fear
Inspired piss or violence
Inflicted blood more than
The vomit of late night’s
Revelry or the tears of a
Much dreaded diagnosis
Almost as much as a stain
On a sheet where love had
Recently lain & wallowed
In the shadow of Zen
"Not Quite a Koan" by Kevin Eberhardt used with the poet's permission.
