The Unlucky Apple (by Paul Laurence Dunbar)

Paul Laurence Dunbar, 1872-1906
(Dayton, Ohio)
The Unlucky Apple
Caused our father’s primal fall;
And the Trojan War, remember—
‘Twas an apple caused it all.
So for weeks I’ve hesitated,
You can guess the reason why,
For I want to tell my darling
She’s the apple of my eye.

I never realized he was from Dayton.
I'm thinking of another poem, in which the apple is cursed for its part in the fall ...
the "fall" creating gravity, which led to Newton ...
which led to calculus ...
which led to every human misery.
In the end ... you cannot spell applesauce without applause.

Methinks you've just written a perfect poem, Mike.
