Night Light (by Kevin Eberhardt)

Kevin Eberhardt
Night Light
What language do children
Speak before they learn to
Talk what gibberish sounds
The question that settles in
Their eyes do they know
The difference or do they
Simply play the fool &
We who fetch & carry
Obscured of our own
Desire obedient to that
Tiny smile that mocks us
& laughs at our frustration
Are we finally reduced to
Incoherent monsters that
Hide underneath the bed
Babbling in a tongue not
Even other monsters can
Understand
